• Service Bulliten – MacolaES and Excel

Exact MacolaES Clients – Error when Opening Excel Since recent Windows Update

Since a recent Microsoft Windows Update you may recive the following error:

“Object library invalid or contains references to object definitions that could not be found”.

If So then you need to delete the EXD files from the folders listed below:

    On Windows XP:

    C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application Data\Microsoft\Forms\

On Windows Vista and Windows 7:

    C:\Users\USER\AppData\Microsoft\Forms\ or C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Forms\ or C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Temp\VBE

You could also do a search for all files like *.EXD and delete the files from the directories when they are found.  Note you may have to turn on the hidden files and folders search option in both  cases.

  • Macola Payroll Users – FUTA tax Update Released 09/15/2011

(09/15/2011)  The Payroll Update for Progression and Macola ES are available as of 09/15/2011 on the Exact Portal.  This change needs to be made PRIOR TO THE LAST PAYROLL of QTR 3!!  Quarter 3 ends 9/30/11.   Please note:  These updates are available only for 7.7.500 and higher and 9.5.500 and higher   – as these are also the versions that we will be supporting for 2010 year end .   I will be contacting all PELASyS Macola Payroll accounts to discuss this update.

  • Customer Alert – Hurricane Irene IT Disaster Preplanning

(August 26, 2011) Several Clients have inquired about turning off their IT equipment over the weekend with the approach of  Hurricane Irene.  I believe this is not a bad idea if we do have any power outage or other effects from the Hurricane.  You should be aware if you are hosting your own website or email that taking such action will bring these down over the weekend. My primary recommendation is for all clients to have a backup offsite over the weekend.  This is always a best practice, but in-light of the current situation I strongly advise to do so.

  • FUTA (Federal Unemployment) Rate to Change July 1, 2011

Macola Payroll Users – please note change in FUTA tax

The Federal Unemployment Tax Act has announced the surcharge of 0.2 percent
has expired as of June 30, 2011. The Government has released documentation
indicating this surcharge will not be reinstated. Starting July 1, 2011 the FUTA
rate for employers is 6.0 percent. The surcharge was originally enacted in 1976,
and Congress has extended it several times since.

Exact is aware that the FUI/FUTA rate has changed effective July 1. If users
of Payroll make the percentage change for FUI in current code, the program will
do a Year-to-Date adjustments; making the change effective January 1, 2011.
Therefore, you must not change the current Payroll setup.

Exact will be releasing an update for the Macola Progression and ES software
that will allow users to change the percentage for FUI and have the change be
effective as of July 1, 2011. This change will add a checkbox in Payroll Setup
for  Adj FUI% QTD similar to the Adj SUI% QTD option.  The software will look at
taxable FUI wages QTD to determine the adjustment that must be made to the FUI
‘tax’ and therefore calculate a negative amount and create the appropriate
journal entry making the change effective July 1, 2011 (or the start of the
    current quarter).

Please watch the Payroll Downloads page (00.825.030) for further information
and the release of this offering.

  • Client Notice – CT Tax Rate Increases as of 07/01/2011

Effective July 1, 2011, the State of Connecticut’s general sales tax rate will increase to 6.35%. If you charge your customers Sales Tax you should look at your Sales Tax Codes in your ERP system and make any required adjustments, before you start invoicing for July.

The State has also changed the payroll taxes as follows : The number of income tax brackets was increased from three to six with the top marginal income tax rate increased to 6.7%. The new income tax rates are 3%; 5%; 5.5%; 6.0%; 6.5% and 6.7%. This change was retroactive to January 1,2011. New tax tables are available for the various ERP packages and I will contact each account about installing these new rate tables.

Special Note to my clients, this legislation doesn’t change the rate for Computer Data Services 1% or Accounting Services which are Sales Tax Exempt. For your convenience I have attached a copy of the State Legislation on my website on the link below.

  • Exact Engage 2011 Annual Conference Summary and Review

The conference started for me on Sunday,  April 3 with partner channel meetings.  In these meetings  the partners were exposed to the messaging for the Engage conference prior to the Monday opening.   Partners met with the senior management of Exact.  I also had the oppurtunity to meet with Randy Napier from SRH Consulting.  I partnered  with SRH consulting in February 2011.

On Monday April 4, the conference opened with an addresses from the Exact management team.  CEO Martijn Janmaat, President, Exact Americas Mitchell Alcon, and master of the ceremonies, VP of Marketing Harry Merkin. This was followed by two keynote speakers; Trey Winthrop from Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods, a Macola ES client, and Charlie Tarling from D&G Machine Products a Job Boss client.  We then broke out into Solution Sessions (Solution Sessions are mini product trainings), and the day closed with a reception in the Vendor Showcase.

Tuesday April 5, started off with motivational speaker Scott Mckain, and then an aggrresive schedule of Solution Sessions into the evening.  I chose to skip the planned evening entertainment.

Wednesday April 6, Started off with Solution Sessions, at 1pm I attended the conference closing.

There was a clear message that Exact is refocusing on the core Macola products.  CEO  Martijn Janmaat explained that Exact is reorganizing into a vertical market approach with manufacturing, wholesale, distribution and professional services for small to mid-sized businesses.   The message was also clear that the Progression and Macola ES product lines were moving forward along with the Globe product line.  A road map of furture releases of each product was mapped out.  The process of how changes are incorporated into product based on partner and client feedback was reviewed.  Exact is looking for more feedback from clients, as currently 6% of active clients vote on future enhancements.
